Visual Eyes - Vibrations

I was brought into this project to create visual elements which are mixed into a wider landscape of imagery for a live performance backdrop. The elements I created were based off of art crafted for each song on the album and serve as a thematic core to the various moments throughout the concert. During the show these pieces would be mixed by a live VJ with numerous other pieces of footage and real-time elements to craft an immersive and unique show expierence. The show takes place within a fulldome (planetarium-style) theater where the visuals will fully envelope and surround the audience with the performers at the front of the space. The performance itself represents a desert journey with a focus on igniting a new way of thinking that lends itself to a better world for all to live in set within a moving soundscape of south-western influenced psychedlic progressive rock.

Expanding 2D still images into high resolution 4kx4k 360-degree living environments presented unique challenges and often required substantial tracing/re-drawing of elements to withstand the exceptional scale and scrutiny it allows for. To further complicate matters the backgrounds and overlays on many of these images are not easy to cleanly create as a properly projected/warped spherical element so it was often the case that even a seemingly simple crawling noise or flowing color swirl would need to be generated within a fully 3D environment. Throughout the rapid-paced project multiple characters and animals were rigged and textured with drawn elements, a variety of fluids, particles and gasses were simulated, green-screens were cobbled together for character silhouettes, and many confusing 2D psychedlic elements were deconstructed and rebuilt to be fleshed out as 3D objects. In order to keep costs and time down to meet the performance deadline the scenes were essentially created within a single day per shot. Most elements were crafted to be seamlessly looping videos so they could be blended into other elements without any interruptions or need for the VJ to work around footage lengths.
